Youth Empowerment. The struggle against HIV/AIDS in South Africa is being waged in the hearts and minds of South African youth. The Youth Focus Area is equipping Orlando East youth to adopt HIV-preventing primary behaviors and take the message of sexual fidelity to their peers through several innovative programs.
It Takes Courage!, developed by SAHAC Partner Organization Kerus Global Education, is a 16 lesson curriculum that equips youth to: 1) create a vision for life; 2) build healthy relationships; 3) make wise decisions; and 4) integrate these skills to understand and prevent AIDS. It Takes Courage! is being pilot tested in Life Orientation classes in Orlando High School.
Fidelity Brand. SAHAC is working with global communications agency Saatchi & Saatchi to develop a “fidelity brand” for Township youth. Key components include: 1) research to probe youth language, culture and mores on the subject; 2) identification of a relevant positioning to address core youth motives; and 3) development a unique and compelling creative concept to persuade youth to adopt disease-preventing primary behaviors…and make the case with their friends.
