CURRENT INITIATIVES MILESTONES

•We currently are in seven public and one private secondary school in the Orlando East, Dobsonville and Orange Farm Townships around Johannesburg. Our office space is provided by Orlando High, the iconic high school that spawned many of the leaders of the student uprising against apartheid.

•We have a functioning network of Courage Club leaders taking responsibility for Courage Movement activities at their respective schools. We recently conducted our second annual winter leadership camp.

•We have two government-registered cooperatives—small entrepreneurial businesses—and three more in the works founded and run by SAHAC youth. (The South African government definition of youth includes recent graduates/young adults as well as students.)

•We have been selected by ReaGile IHS Ltd. as a primary agent for locating as many as 1,000 self-contained entertainment, education and community care centers—each capable of employing up to 21 youth—in residential townships in South Africa. http://www.reagile.co.za/reagile_brochure.html

•With the help of StrataMark Dynamic Solutions, a Cincinnati-based market research firm, we developed and administered to 3,300 students at five of our public schools Wave I of a 50-question survey that will enable us to track trends in student awareness, attitude and behavior over time at participating schools.

•Fiscal year 2009-10 expenditures were US$170,000 raised through partner organization annual contributions, private foundation grants and individual contributions.
